Together at the Bluebird Cafe
This album is taken from one fantastic night at the Bluebird Cafe, Nashville in September 1995, less than 18 months before Townes Van Zandt died. All three performers are on top form, combining sparse acoustic versions of some of their most captivating songs with witty anecdotes and jokes. Particular highlights are Clarke's 'Dublin Blues' and the haunting version of 'Techumsah Valley' which Townes performs. This is not a sonic masterpiece,its three great singer songwriters treating an audience to a great time. The rapport between the three artistes is revealing of their lifestyle and very funny,you can feel the singers and the audiences enjoyment.None of them have great voices but they sing their own songs brilliantly,I dont think any other singer could sing a Steve Earle song.Throw in Emmy-lou Harris harmonising on a couple of tracks just to round of a great night. makes me wish I had been there.Not everyones cup of tea, but the best couple of pounds Ive spent in a long time.
