MOON: A SPACE ODDITY
I watched Moon not because it was a film by Duncan Jones. I chose to watch it because it is a film by a director who was first called Zowie Bowie(a clue), then Joe Bowie (another clue)and whose Dad is David Bowie, someone described earlier in his career as looking like a being from outerspace on more than one occasion. Duncan Jones has been diligent in estabishing some light years between his father's considerable fame and his own burgeoning directing career. Moon is an intelligent film with the required flotsum and jetsum floating on top of the narrative such a moon vehicles better executed by Space 1999. It wants to say provocative and profound things about time, longing and memory not easy subjects. Moon is not Hollywood "wham, bam thank you mam" in his father's words but it is a ... man on the moon
Quite an old dvd so no digital effects, the story line is really good and the plot although guessable you become immersed in the relationship between Sam and the computer. Kevin Spacey as the voice a brilliant casting gem. Well worth watching, at the right price, cheaper than a pint at Wetherspoons and lasts longer.
