The Ultimate Summer Album
I first heard this album when I was travelling through Europe in a car, early in the eighties. I played it over and over again, and it only grew better by each listening. I never go tired of listening to it, as the melodies are of such high quality. Every song is a masterpiece, and it's difficult to just name a few highlights. The outstandingly beautiful melodies, Chris Rea's lovely, melancholy voice, the excellent musicians, everything works together to make this one of my absolut favorite albums. It's maybe because I first listened to it in the summer, but to me it sums up the essence of summer; bittersweet joy, the feeling of lost possibilities, friends gone by, but also lazy days spent on sunlit beaches. Many claim that The Road To Hell is Rea's best album, but to me, On The Beach is ... I first heard this album when I was travelling through Europe in a car, early in the eighties. All In All ,a perfect summer Holiday on a CD thanks to Chris Rea ,God bless
I would say this is one of the best LP/CD I have heard. I have it on the Old PL but now again on CD. Mr Chris Rea is one hell of a song writer and these song brings back the days of Long hot summer days,With that special someone next to you on the sand.Just lay back close your eyes and hear the waves crash against the rocks,and feel the warm sun on your body.The next track LITTLE BLOND PLAITS again is a haunting tune that you can forget, Also Givenny these two songs alone will keep you Hummming all day. This would be top of my list,if I were on a Island. This is a must for any lover of true music,and I know there have been a few versions of ON THE BEACH , BUT ! this slow dreamy version has to be the best ever.
