It's wonderful to see the fine acting of Jeremy Brett, the two very brilliant actors that play Dr Watson are delightful foyles for the charasmatic character of Sherlock Holmes. Jeremy's versatility and alacrity as a nimble, cat-like Holmes vaulting over sofas and out through windows, his theatrical personification is why he is described the definitive Sherlock Holmes. On the negative side, as an animal lover, I did find watching the horse drawn carriages and carts rather painful, but I am aware that the majority of viewers won't find it so. Sherlock's brother Mycroft is not plausible as the unfathomable and intellectually powerful brother of Sherlock. Here there is miscasting - and unfortunately Jeremy is absent in one episode and Mycroft takes his place. Some of the episodes are ... very well produced stories with convincing portrayal of Holmes and Watson and the period within which it was originally set. Great number of notable actors appear in the stories many no longer with us and much missed.
