    Brillaint book, well worth reading.

Like both of Roger Deakin's other books this is very well written and very engaging, I'm not even a keen swimmer so I'd delayed buying this after reading the fantastic "Wildwood" but, like that fine book this sucks you right in and you can't stop reading until it\s finished.

  • Most critical review

    A disappointingly dull read

This book is not what its hyped up to be. Far from the 'eccentric' journal of a late middle aged, journeying swimmer across the British Isles, which other reviews hail it to be, this is an utterly dull and disappointing read, which had me give up at around page 100. The late writer of this book can be occasionally poetic, and use vivid metaphors to conjour up images, but this is far outweighed by his penchant for digression and the circumnavigation of boring anecdotes about obscure swimming baths, pools, and clubs. This is the main content of his book and occupies a great deal of his thought. Any nuances that touch upon nature are interspersed with this meandering, pompous, commentary, stuffed with mid-numbing arid facts, dates, and circumstantial embroidery to pad this book out. I ...

  • Swimming at its best!

This is a great book! If you are a swimmer, and especially if you have experienced open water or wild swimming then this book will hit the sweet-spot! Deakin writes a compelling narrative based on his experiences and fills it with wonderfully quirky notes and asides, sometimes historical, sometimes relevant, but always enlightening and enchanting. Highly recommended reading.

  • Great book

Loved it. Very inspired to go find some of these fascinating places. Wild Swimming is definitely on my ‘to do’ list.

  • Wonderful Waterlog!

The writer was an amazingly-talented man who travelled the world, knew what ‘real’-life was about and had a vast-knowledge of trees, plants, literature and people👍.
