Joni Mitchell at the height of her career!
Shot in 1979 and released in 1980. Very poor camera work and quality compared to todays standards. Enjoyable to see such a top notch band she was touring with. Pat Metheny looks like he's in high school! Michael Brecker was outstanding! Could have done without the Persuasions, an odd paring for this show but fortunately they were featured only on the last 2 songs.

Two geniuses from different worlds on the same stage.
It is an immense pleasure to be able to view rare footage of Joni Mitchell and Jaco Pastorius weaving their magic together on the same stage partaking in the same music.To see the still fresh Pastorius weave his intricate lines into Joni's music without sacrificing solid foundational bass playing in this 1980 concert , is sublime. Both artists make the most difficult and intricate playing look so easy and effortless. Pat Metheny was out of his league in the ensemble at this early stage of his career with Joni's style of music, but thankfully it does not really show except in Joni's hypnotic and brilliant rendition of Amelia. Besides using rare guitar tunings, she changed chords and time signatures with the ease of Bob Dylan in the sixties.Metheny did not get the drift of ... This is not a DVD to miss, not only for historical reasons but for the sheer level of musical excellence and mastery of Joni Mitchell and Jaco Pastorius.Two geniuses from different planets, one from Venus and one from Mars, perfectly aligned one summer's night on stage.

This dvd is perhaps the highest fidelity available from the mastering tech of 80s and circa, that you and I can afford, so seeing and hearing Joni Mitchell onstage this well organized and backed up by top artists on a so-affordable format is a great find. A live concert reveals more of the artists intent for our ears, so I have always bought live shows on disc as soon as available, and this is a great example of the Joni Mitchell I came to love to hear, and is in a very well-performed show by all involved. The stage artists and presence is a real treat and must be seen by anyone who loves rock, and jazz, is really unclassifiable by someone like me, so don't let your definition of good and preferred, to allow you to to miss this one, you gotta see it at least once. It may send ... I personally prefer and try to buy only live shows and concert recordings, before artists' studio output, but this girls' quality was able to make me have to buy her studio work, and I liked more of hers than other artists' studio output. After all, it is mostly just a business, and who do we get to see out of our own home towns, that isn't simply profit for disc-pressers, and they all are just workers like us, right? Who among all of us can do this, given our american must go to work and go home and have dinner, then sleep and go to work tomorrow with this no change in sight way of life?.....music is how some live through times life is so tedious or monotonous the mind sees life through a horribly debilitating mind-control filter. This is bad for living the way our futures we planned for is expected to be lived. Joni Mitchell writes songs so distracting from this common blinding dullness that it is truly gut-and-soul medicine, she writes well, sings great, and has such talented fellow artists to show us this, it is worth it, no matter if new or old, her stuff shows quality and respect for the art, so necessary for the improvement of our lives here and now, and can't be forgotten and left behind in such recent time. The interesting and interested in life lyrics are sometimes surprising and disturbing, all of her writing, and it is well that they are. Maybe more should have done this in this style, and I would have liked more time to find more of this kind of show, but not many have impressed me over the years, and I have worn out much media long ago, showing my friends this concert, all of which were smiling by the end of the show!!! Life is never to be banging and screaming at and about nothing, so try to find something respectful to you-the-listener sometimes, and relax and live longer. It certainly makes thinking and using your brain easier when stress is reduced! I am glad this disc is here to get, and I only recently found it, because life for me is that distracting from what is really important, and so now I am smiling again!!! Maybe even still hope to find a girlfriend who could think this clearly about real things, and not programmed patterns of continuing the perpetuated madnesses.....Nah, not possible in america. Find it. enjoy it.

If you're a Joni Mitchell fan this is a must. Joni is in great form on this DVD, which includes both live concert footage and very well directed music video type segments. The band is ultra premium with Pat Metheny on guitar, Jaco Pastorius on electric bass, Don Alias on drums, Lyle Mays on keys, and Michael Brecker on sax. You'd never guess the live concert was performed over 26 years ago. I highly recommend this to all above average music fans.If you're a Joni Mitchell fan this is a must.
