This is now an old camera, but an excellent backup to my D700 as it takes the same lenses. In fact all f mount lenses as the AF motor is in the body. It's easy to use for beginners and also can be manual for mir advanced users. It's Nikon so very robust. The 6.1 megapixels are not as good as today's cameras for perfect resolution but you can easily get done great images from it Well worth the £50 I paid for it 😃👍

The film speed is good - i.e. the range, from slow up to 1,600. I still have not been able to work out aperture priority and a lot of the features just bamboozle me! I think that, for £70, for body only, you could do a lot better just getting a Sony compact type camera. I am using my old lenses from my old Nikon, so I have to use manual mode. This explains why it's such hard work! I will no doubt start to get good photos with blots of practice, but I feel I've taken a backward step with this body

I bought this camera body as I had a spare Nikon lens for my Nikon D50 and it was a good price. The picture quality is excellent considering the age of the camera and the 6mp sensor. It produces better pictures than any compact I have seen to date, Sept 2011, regardless of how many megapixels it may have. The auto-focus works better than on my D50 and the extra controls it has makes it easier to use. It can take 4gb CF cards when my D50 is limited to 2gb SD cards. It takes more pictures per battery charge than any compact camera I have used. On the down side it is quite old and heavy. Carrying the camera on the street can attract unwelcome attention as it looks expensive. It is probably not the best camera to take to a party and may not go down well at sporting events or concerts. The camera has no video capabilities at all and is at it's best at low ISO settings. This particular example needed the sensor cleaning but was otherwise in very good condition. I would buy another Nikon D70 but only if in good condition and at a good price. If it starts to become collectible and the prices rise I would consider something else as there are plenty of more modern used SLR's out there going cheap.Read full review
this was nikons first digital camera aimed at the amateur market. it is a compact light weight body that is easy to use. the flash is CLS system that works really well and synchs at 1/500 sec. too. this is the ideal starter body for anyone starting out in digital photography.

Used the D70 and D70S for 20 or so years for fun and semi pro photos and never needed anything different. Excellent camera in auto or manual mode. Good ancillaries available for close ups and lighting.
