About this product

Product Information

In the summer of 1956, Stevens, the ageing butler of Darlington Hall, embarks on a leisurely holiday that will take him deep into the English countryside and into his past.A haunting tale of lost causes and a lost love, The Remains of the Day contains Ishiguro's now celebrated evocation of life between the wars in a Great English House - within those walls can be heard ever more distinct echoes of the violent upheavals spreading across Europe.

Loving the book, Ishiguro is a wonderful descriptive and pure writer, I would say in the style of Hemingway. Again I have to say I often contest book sellers descriptions if a books condition. Very good to me is almost mint.

Condition was described as very good. Book is fully annotated in a mix of pen and pencil. There are even some doodles. I am guessing probably a mistake that nobody opened the book but this is not very good condition. For me was a waste of money as I was ordering to lend to someone without spoilers as my copy is annotated. Would not recommend if you want a book that is not annotated. However very very cheap so not the end of the world.

    Overdue read

I had heard of this book and of course the film but hadn’t got around to reading the book. It got onto our book club list and although I haven’t finished it yet, it is wonderfully written. The language is beautiful and so lovely to immerse yourself in. Thoroughly recommend this book!

  • Truly wonderful story

This classic story is one of the best I’ve ever read, beautifully written. The film is also excellent with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. Highly recommend both. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Okay 👌

Decent quality, arrived on time, different cover than shown which is a little disappointing but I got the book and there's nothing wrong with it.
