Written and directed by Marc Winnick who also plays Charles in the film has created a wonderful film for those to enjoy. Marc is very talented and also has a twin brother named Jonathan. Putting things into perspective, Marc was born the same year I graduated from high school, so you might wonder where and how I've developed my skills as a reviewer. Well, 30 years his senior puts me way ahead of suspense and science fiction. Hope you will not think I'm bragging. Kate (Jolene Blalock) and Jack (James Marsters) awake in individual white padded cells in an abandoned research facility wearing only gray underwear and total amnesia. They hear strange noises and decide to look for a way out. They meet six other strangers in the same situation. One of them is attacked and killed by a shadow. While trying to escape, they find the brain erasing apparatus with the indication that had been used eight times. When they meet the ninth stranger, they realize that one of them is lying and knows what happened. James Marsters gives an excellent performance as the mad doctor, Jack. Marsters actually died his hair auburn red to make this film. As you may already know Marsters played in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Surprising enough, the character Jack turns out to be the bad guy who wiped out the memories. What I liked most about this film was the scariness there were a couple of times when I jumped out of my seat after seeing the shadow monster. Shadow Puppets is one of those films that really gets you scared and kind of makes you wonder what is going to happen from one scene to the next scene. Although it became a bit repetitive and slow many times, I enjoyed the climax. Star Trek's series Enterprise heated things up a bit with T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) in her gray underwear. I guess the scriptwriter wanted to take Blalock and put her in this film just like her Enterprise showings and give the entire film a wonderful twist with people running around half naked in their undergarments. Scott Bakula would have been proud! I miss her pointed ears. It not really a bad film, although many could say that this is a copycat film mimicking "Saw" or "Cube". The entire premise of the film is a bit far-fetched and the shadow monster may be a bit pathetic, but we really get to see some good googling from Charlie and some of the other actors amongst them as they admire the scantily clothed ladies. Natasha Alam gets to show it all in one scene which is quite surprising. Wrapping things up, Smoke monster from "Lost" hunts T'Pol, Spike and Candyman in an underground facility where no one remembers who they are. And that's the original part of the film. Tony Todd (Candyman) gives another great performance as Steve, the felon. He adds humor to the story and did a fantastic job adding color to this drab and repetitive film. Todd has probably topped 140 roles by know and is still going stong. A trivial tidbit about this film is the full names of the characters on their US DOS Medical Qualifying reports include Charles Thomas Riley, Dr. Kate Adams, Stacy Gibson, Amber Diane McCormik and Melissa Tucker. Give this film a chance. It was well worth the time and effort, although I would have kept the amnesia storyline a bit shorter. 3/5 for creepiness and great acting. OK. If you love James Marsters, you might want to buy this DVD. His acting shows a range of believable emotions. This is a horror movie where you see the "monster" way too early and too often. It is almost so bad to be funny. I can see mystery theater 3000 reviewing this movie (OK- the monster eats people who are wearing clothes- so you women who have been models [quick!] get down to your underwear, and everybody else stand over against that other wall!) If the special effects had been better, the movie might not have been a stinker. But it would have been sort of your average mad scientist horror movie. Of course, if you NEED to see women running away from the bad guy in underwear, maybe you do want to see this movie. The female lead is the actress who played the Vulcan in the "Enterprise" series. Personally, I miss the pointed ears.Read full review
This was quite a surprise. I didn't know what to expect but i liked Jolene Blalock and ordered it just because she was in it. I found the movie to be quite entertaining and suspenseful and kept you alert throughout. It made you pay attention and had twists along the way.

This is a great concept for a movie and I love James Marsters' acting (and he does a very good job with what he's given), but something about this movie just didn't do it for me. I only really bought the movie to see Marsters in a role other than Spike anyway, so it was worth it from that standpoint. I'm not sure what it is about this movie that didn't click for me (some of the other actors? the writing maybe?), but it was only okay.
It is great
