Very beneficial to families caring for someone with Alzheimers/Dementia
The book is enlightening and helpful into anybody caring for someone with dementia. The aforethought that the sufferer with Alzheimers has, is amazing and so far we have used some of the ideas to help with our mum. Such understanding into her condition has helped us and in some way relieved our anxiety. Some of the ideas have already proved beneficial for us as a family, and wish we had known about the book earlier. It is very good value, and the content compelling especially to those closely associated with this disease. It was recommended to us by a professional carer who also uses some of the ideas in the book to help her understand her patients.The book is enlightening and helpful into anybody caring for someone with dementia. A personal view of having dementia
'Somebody I used to know' is a personal view of having dementia. My husband has dementia, I am doing a course run by Dignity in Dementia to help me to understand what he is feeling and help him as best I can. The course is really good and this book and the follow up were mentioned as being very helpful. I started reading it a few days ago, it is very well written and very readable. We were shown a video clip of Wendy Mitchell, she is an astonishing woman and coping incredibly well with the situation she has found herself in. 'Somebody I used to know' is poignant but positive
poignant but positive and a very helpful book to those who care about those with Alzheimer's/dementia, and to anyone who has been diagnosed with it. 'Living with', rather than 'suffering from' Alzheimer's is the great message I learned from the book. So well written and brilliantly explained how living with this disease really is.
