An excellent insight into the world of French resistance during WW2.
I live in central France, and found the French version of this book at a flea market. The book looked interesting, however, as my French is not that good, I decided to buy the English version. Before reading this book I had a very black and white view of the French resistance during WW2. I assumed they all Marquis had the same aims and that only the Germans were responsible for attrocities, but Max Hastings provides an excellent insight into what the real situation was. I live in an area of France in which there was much Marquis activity, and I feel that I can now appreciate much better what it might have been like to have lived here during those dark days of war.I live in central France, and found the French version of this book at a flea market.
