Rental copy not the best media for this film
I'm a fan of The Pink Panther slapstick, this Steve Martin version is a good addition to the family. Only thing letting this DVD down is the bad audio quality, with volume levels dropping frequently.

the pink panther
this genre of film was alas only suited to the late great peter sellers who was in himself a remarkable ad-libber and could make the national news funny. this more modern atempt at reviving a timeless classic has in my eyes failed terribly, not to take away from "steve martin" himself i feel a comic genius but not the right person for this role in my view,( Adam Sandler would have been a better choice) the original pink panther films where to be more exact of a serious nature, played in a comical way wereas this new film i feel started of life trying to be a relas comedy film which tried to have a serious path which did not work..in lay mans terms peter sellers played a serious part and made it uniquly funny steve martin played a funny guy and tried to keep a certain element of ... this genre of film was alas only suited to the late great peter sellers who was in himself a remarkable ad-libber and could make the national news funny. this more modern atempt at reviving a timeless classic has in my eyes failed terribly, not to take away from "steve martin" himself i feel a comic genius but not the right person for this role in my view,( Adam Sandler would have been a better choice) the original pink panther films where to be more exact of a serious nature, played in a comical way wereas this new film i feel started of life trying to be a relas comedy film which tried to have a serious path which did not work..in lay mans terms peter sellers played a serious part and made it uniquly funny steve martin played a funny guy and tried to keep a certain element of seriousness in the role , bad combination andim sure most of you people who have saw this film will relate to this. sorry but in my eyes and compared to the original films it only gets a 2 compared to a real 5 form the past!!!

I was a great fan of the original Peter Sellers Pink Panther films and was intrigued on whether this new film would be a patch on the originals. Having not seen this film at the cinema I bought it to see for myself having heard varying reviews. Throughout the film it was difficult to imagine it without Peter Sellers although Steve Martin does make you laugh. The old slapstick is there but not as much as the originals. Should there be another one to follow I am sure that they will catch on like the originals. Having said that the film is enjoyable but as I have said it is difficult not seeing Peter Sellers in the lead role.
