We used it once and it was fine. The battery holder is tight on ours, and is hard to take off the Dyson without also pulling the battery off. If you were not strong in the hand it might be challenging. I'm considering soldering the electrics from this onto the battery holder from the Dyson one, as there's nothing apart from the contacts to connect up on the holder.

As others have said - it does charge a Dyson DC16, but the cradle supplied is an extremely tight fit on the vac. The solution I used was to use the 'new' charger and electrical wire, contacts etc, but the old cradle. This means dismantling the old cradle to insert the wire and contacts from the new charger.(its only unpopping some plastic clips - there is at least one review which describes it). After doing this it occurred to me that its probably easier to just cut the cables and join the wires from the new charger to the wires to the old cradle, but you will need a multimeter to check that the positive and negative are still the correct way round at the sprung battery contacts. I do think that it would be helpful if the people selling this item included suggestions as to how to get round this problem.Read full review

This replacement base unit doesn't fit the DC 16 battery unless you fancy using a mallet to remove the vacuum cleaner after forcing it in. It's a shame because the actual electrical components seem reasonable quality but the plastic moulding is of very poor quality and accuracy. You could fix it with the use of a file and some patience, however, the spring contacts and cabling are easily removed and will fit into the original Dyson charger base without a great deal of effort. It would be good if just the contacts and power supply could be purchased without the base as it's unusual for the base to fail and the original one can usually be reused. To swap the charging base, squeeze the 3 retaining lugs on the rear of the base and pull off the cover. The contacts and cable can be simply pulled from their locating pins and labyrinth. I had to trim the labyrinth pins with a Stanley knife to allow for thicker cable of the replacement unit. Reassemble, ensuring the terminals are located with correct polarity before snapping back on the cover.Read full review

This is the only replacement DC16 charger I can find on the market so I had to buy it despite reviews. I agree with them, it's too small and it's almost impossible to get the battery out of it. It looks good and charges fine, just too small. My husband is going to use it to fix the original one by soldering the wires of the plug to the old base. You can actually vacuum with the charger still attached (so you don't have to keep ripping it out) but eventually you have to remove it as you can't empty it otherwise. I have to recommend it as otherwise the DC16 is for the dustbin! Message to vendor, please make it a bit wider!!

Only buy this if you are capable of changing over the docking station to the original Dyson one. If you do not have an original Dyson docking station then you have a problem as the none original one is to tight for the battery to go in. If you force the battery in trying to get it out is very difficult without using a screw drivers a lever.
