International superstar Tiger Woods tees off for his fourth golf outing on Xbox 360 with several new features. While the core play mechanics are identical to last year's game, which continued the analog-based swing meter first introduced in 1998, more options are now available to customize the experience. The biggest change is the inclusion of a personal golf coach to help improve your long and short game. Tiger's coach Hank Haney will serve as your mentor, assessing your swing and offering tips on equipment to maximize your abilities. <br><br>Clubs can now be tuned to take advantage of a course's width, doglegs, and length. You can freely adjust power (at the expense of accuracy), accuracy (at the expense of power), or "workability" to improve draw and fade. Five new courses include Gary Player Country Club, Sheshan Golf & Country Club, Wolf Creek Golf Club, Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge, and Wentworth Golf Club. A dynamic attribute system automatically adjusts skill ratings based on how well you play on each course. If ratings fall too far below acceptable levels, call on Hank Haney to provide specific drills so you remain competitive.

I buy all the Tiger Woods games almost every year. I waited for awhile until I got my Xbox hooked up to the internet so I could play online. Online is much more of a challenge then any golfer on the game (for the most part). About the only thing I Dislike about the game is your attributes can go up and down every round. Every shot matters! I don't like this because the game has no risk reward for say trying to reach a par 4 off the tee. If you hit the green in one and bounce off the green in the back rough it counts as a missed fairway obviously. Which drives down your fairways hit %, which somehow is under the power category of your player and not the accuracy. Short game is the same way. No added reward is give when the wind is 30+ mph. A few new bells and whisles, but same over all feel
I have played it through twice with 2 created golfers, so it isn't all that bad. Everything plays quite smooth and is fun to play all the way through. This time you have to max out your golfer on a scale of 12 that takes some time to improve the golfer. In 2009, you have to do your challenges at the end of a round, or on some of the longer Tiger Challenges. They also created a cool real time golf round with up to 4 players all hitting their balls at once. This is nice if you have friends that play it online too. What I dislike: it probably is just me, but I find it very hard to hit the wedges. I mean I can never find the right percent and hit it over or short just about every shot under 100 yards. This is the same from the past 3 years too. When you have to hit your lobe wedge 40 ... I have played it through twice with 2 created golfers, so it isn't all that bad. It's still challenging and fun to create your own golfer, or play online against other people in real time.

But just as Tiger didn't let torn ligaments and a broken leg keep him from winning the US Open, EA Sports hasn't used the short development cycle associated with yearly games as an excuse. Instead, it has worked to make the controls more user-friendly and further integrated the online gamernet feature. The result is a game that's worthy of carrying the Tiger Woods name. Tiger Woods 09's controls aren't vastly different from TW 08, but they're much more forgiving. You start your swing by pulling back on the analog stick and then strike the ball by moving the stick forward. A more traditional three-button-press option is available at any time by clicking the right analog ... Last year, the slightest deviation left or right during your swing would result in a terrible shot, particularly if you were using a golfer with low skill attributes. This year, not only are you punished less severely if your swing isn't perfect, but you also get instant feedback via an onscreen meter that shows exactly how you moved the stick. By monitoring this feedback, you can learn how to straighten your swing or compensate for your natural swing by adjusting your aim or by adding a draw or fade to the ball with the press of a button. The addition of Tiger's own coach Hank Haney to TW 09 makes hitting the ball easier as well. You can now head to the driving range and adjust each of your clubs to best suit your playing style. For example, if you're struggling for accuracy off the tee, you can increase the sweet spot on your driver. This will help ensure that your drives stay on the fairway, but you'll sacrifice some distance. This level of customization is often intimidating in sports games, but here, the process is simple and worthwhile. TW 09 includes 16 golf courses, which is the same number as last year. New courses include Wentworth, Sheshan, Wolf Creek, and Bay Hill. The Gary Player Country Club in South Africa is an excellent addition to the mix, but it's disappointing that there aren't more courses--especially when you consider how quick EA was to charge for downloadable courses in 08. The roster of male and female professional golfers is about the same as before, but there are a few new faces, such as Se Ri Pak and Darren Clarke. Like previous iterations, you can create a golfer using the game's deep customization tools, and you can even import your own photos to make a truly lifelike version of your mug (you can even add eyebrows this year). Money is earned by playing on the PGA Tour or by completing events, such as beating golfers head-to-head, driving the ball a certain number of yards, getting a particular score on a group of holes, and more in the Tiger Challenge mode. Cash can then be used to buy new gear, some of which carries a small skill bonus. Unlike in the past, you'll actually have to earn most of your attributes on the links with the new dynamic skill-progression feature. After each round (and most challenges), coach Haney will raise or lower your driving, accuracy, short game, and putting attributes based on your performance. Rather than punish you for playing poorly (though he still does that), Haney gives you the chance to earn a few points back with brief challenges where you try to hit the ball into a large circular target.

Best Tiger Woods Yet!!!!
Awesome golf video game. I am an avid fan of the series and have played all of them since '06 and definitely think this is the best out of all of them. The graphics have improved maybe a little bit since '08 but not much of a difference. The change/improvement that I love about '09 the most is the Real-Time Swing Feedback, the ball in the bottom left that shows your power and how straight you brought the left stick back and forth when making a backswing and downswing...in '08 it only showed your line after you hit the ball; in '09 you can actually see your line when moving the stick, in real-time. It is a great added feature and a much needed improvement. The driving is also a lot less touchy in '09 than it was in '08, a lot less shanks and a lot more room for error. They made putting a ... I have been playing the game for about 8 hours, all spent on the Tiger Challenge, and I can safely say that it is addicting, plain and simple; I didn't want to put the controller down but eventually I had to...100 times better than '08 or any of the other previous games' Tiger Challenges. If you are a fan of the Tiger Woods game series and have played them a lot you will without a doubt love '09 as much as I do. Definitely worth paying $60+. 10/10.

Excellent opportunity to obtain an unopened package of the latest release. Tiger Woods 09 does not disappoint in any aspects. When played on my 42 inch plasma, the picture quality and visual graphics were astounding. There are multitudes of variations to players and an impressive array of courses to play. The more that you play each course and learn the intricacies of the real-life conditions of the actual course, the more that you feel like you are actually at that specific course. I like the specialized and personal touches they have added to the latest version, and I think it is appreciably better than the previous edition. I would recommend to anyone, especially the weekend golfer who will never play on golf courses like these and hit incredible shot after shot to score amazingly ...
