I don't remember exactly when or where I first heard about director Jessica Yu's five-year work "In the Realms of the Unreal." It may have been on PBS. All I know is that after first viewing it I'd never feel quite the same again about the undiscovered artist in myself or anyone else. Through one-on-one interview with those who knew (in reality very little about this janitor-by-day and brilliant, silent artist-by-night) Henry Darger - and with the aid of some stunning visual effects which bring his work to life post humously - Yu and her crew engage audiences and bring viewer levels of empathy to heights which are rivaled only by the mountainous volume of work Darger produced from within the confines of his small but functional apartment. I've bought numerous copies to distribute to friends and share the movie with anyone who's willing to watch it. A must see for anyone with a soft spot for the arts, humanity and/or the unsung heroes who move among us, quietly, every day. Stunning, moving and powerful, "In the Realms of the Unreal" is not to be missed!Read full review
This is a documentary about an artist who was not known until after his death. The movie depicts a very sensitive human being who could have been anyone's next door neighbor. His prolific works are outstanding in artistic quality. In them we are able to see snipets of humanity and how those incidents affected one human being. It is a magnificent work from which any artist might gain ideas and inspiration for future art pieces.

This is a doc about the amazing novel (tens of thousands of pages!) and artwork of Henry Darger, and the life & circumstances that led to its creation. His life's work was only discovered after his death. He was extremely introverted to the outside world, choosing instead to live through his work.
Loved this. Was amazing to see someones life that is so far away from the mainstream and yet made total sense in his own world. An excellent dvd for people interested in unique art and lifestyles. A definite must have for my collection.
An excellent piece. Very well done and worth every cent. However, when requested o enter 100 characters then to heck with writing any more reviews. I am a man of few words and will remain that way
