The June 2003 release of Knowledge Adventure's new series of eight JumpStart Advanced titles is designed to offer kids from toddler age through sixth grade level a head start for the impending school year. Each of the comprehensive three-CD packs contains fundamental skills for the targeted age group, as well as two additional CDs with various exercises, adventures, and activities. JumpStart Advanced: 3rd Grade, for ages seven through nine, features more than 55 separate activities in the areas of fundamental skills, a world field trip, and a mystery adventure. Parental options, progress reports, and a separate Assessment Test allow adults to monitor the usage of the program.<br><br>Topics in Disc 1, Fundamentals (formerly sold as JumpStart 3rd Grade), include history, math, language arts, science, art, and music. An auto-leveling feature adjusts program difficulty for compatibility with each user's skill level. During gameplay, players gain objects, clues, and points by applying skills to solve riddles and puzzles in a world populated by robots and weird inventions. Missions take place in the Mystery Mountain Mansion, which features a myriad of floors, rooms, halls, mazes, games, puzzles, and challenges.<br><br>In Far-Out Field Trips (Disc 2), players are given 50 tickets to participate in challenges in eight locations, and must earn more in the Deep Sea Danger arcade game to replenish their initial supply. Events include snowboarding (Snowy Mountain), climbing (Rocky Cliff Rock), inline skating (Boardwalk), mountain biking (Bike Trails), skateboarding (Skate Park), surfing (Beach), river rafting (River), and worldwide glide (Observatory). By successfully winning games, players can create two magazine pages with dynamic headlines, facts, articles, advertisements, photos, and song and sound files.<br><br>Disc 3, Mystery Club Vol. 2: Gadget Games, has players investigating ten mysteries with over 60 clues. By collecting clues and playing mini-games, players can work their way up through five levels of Academy ranks, with two mysteries per rank. As in Vol. 1, Detective Academy, seven detective styles educate users in different areas: logic, music, linguistics, nature, kinesthetic learning, interpersonal relationships, and spatial skills. Sleuths can use various tools depending on which style they choose, such as a word scrambler, musical tone analyzer, codebreaker, shape puzzler, and more.<br><br>JumpStart Advanced: 3rd Grade teaches more than 50 skills in the areas of math, social studies, language arts, art and music, science, and thinking skills, employing seven expert-identified learning styles. As with all the JumpStart Advanced titles, 3rd Grade contains comprehensive on-CD manuals for all three programs, parental or caregiver advice and assistance, and progress reports.
