Joanna Southcott's yearning to make her mark in the world was so strong that she inadvertently sold her soul to the Devil. She would rather have given it to Jesus, but the Devil persuaded her that the voices she heard were from God. It was only on her death-bed that she realised she was not the Bride of Christ at all, but the Mistress of Satan. This book unravels the mystery of this self-proclaimed prophetess from Exeter, Devon, who held such power over her 14,000 Sealed Believers that some refused to make even a simple decision without consulting her. In 1814 Joanna announced she was pregnant and the Holy Ghost was the father. She was 65 and claimed to be a virgin, and thirty eminent doctors confirmed her pregnancy. She said if she was lying, then the Virgin Mary and Jesus were liars too. She prophesied that the year 2004 would be the start of the Final Millennium, when she would return with her holy child, Shiloh, to govern the world. She left instructions about what must be done when the time comes, in a Sealed Box of Prophecies which is reputed to have not been opened for nearly 200 years. She died on December 27, 1814, at 38 Manchester Street, Marylebone, London, but no child appeared. Her disciples claimed that a spiritual child had been born the previous day, fulfilling a prophecy made in Revelation, ch. 12, v. 1. The whereabouts of the Box has remained a mystery since 1861. Here, Val Lewis lists all the custodians of the Box since William Sharp first took charge of it in 1801, to the present day. Modern day followers world-wide have until now believed that the sacred Box was in the safe custody of the Panacea Society, Bedford, England - a bizarre offshoot of the Southcottian movement. But for 130 years five generations of the Jowett family, Yorkshire, has kept the writings safe from prying eyes. Joanna stipulated the Box must only be opened by 24 Church of England Bishops, a challenge the Church has declined. According to Joanna there are only a few years left before Judgement Day arrives in the year 2004. Time is now running out and the Bishops still won't open Joanna Southcott's Box of Prophecies. This book aims to find out why.
