Lightweight palette from a respected brand with plenty of mixing areas

Good quality student grade watercolour paints. I just wanted the travel palette as it has a thumb hole and plenty of mixing areas. I have replaced the colours with some I already had and will use the little cup provided for medium as it isn't big enough for water. All in hall a handy palette and very affordable.

  • Perfect range of colours

I used to love art but have barely picked up a paintbrush since school and figured quarantine was a good time to start 😂 I didn't want to spend to much money but wanted some decent quality paints and brushes. I got the set with 14 colours, the box works as a mixing pallet, a brush and paint holder and a water pot all in one and even came with a brush! I was a little worried that I wouldn't have enough colours but I made a colour chart by mixing all of the colours and it turns out I had every colour I could think of (picture below). I don't know much about quality but they seemed to me perfect for beginners and professionals. The ONLY bad points; no black (I used fine liner pen which solved most of the problems with this, pictures below) and the water pot is quite small so you end up ...

  • Lovely, and very practical compact watercolour box

I'm really pleased with this set. It's an excellent range and it's such a very useable layout too. Surprisingly comfortable to hold, easy to open and it closes tidily away into a neat, pocket friendly box. The waterbrush is also very useable, and surprisingly effective. Recommended, especially at the price I paid for it :-)

  • Best travelling box for the price.

This is a very handy watercolour set. The quality is fine, the colours are easy to lift from the pans. Check out scratchmadejournal's comparison of student watercolours. The price is low. You can hold the paint box and a small paper pad in one hand if you don't fully extend the mixing area at the thumb-hole end - see photo - and here's still plenty space left for mixing.

  • A Comfortable Paintbox at last!

When the lower palette is pulled out, the novel thumb hole is revealed. This is to be used in place of the more common thumb ring, which features on many paintboxes. I never use thumb rings, when they are provided, because I find them uncomfortable. By contrast, this thumb hole is really comfortable and causes the paintbox to settle nicely in the palm of the non-painting hand. Moreover, this paintbox (with its thumb hole) is equally convenient for both right-handed and left-handed painters; this is something that left-handed painters rarely find with other paintboxes. Overall the paintbox is strongly made and well provisioned with areas for paint mixing and washes. The included Cotman paints are high quality student grade paints which can be relied on as a rule. When the paints have ...
