About this product

Product Information

From aviation's earliest days, ambitious designers worldwide have sought to produce winged behemoths which dwarfed their contemporaries. There has been an extraordinary variety of giant aeeroplanes, ranging from Maxim's massive multiplane of 1894 to the titanic Antonov An-225 Mriya of today. In this book, the author takes a closer look at 80 of the world's largest aircraft, including the Short Sasfand, Hughes Hercules and Saunders-Rose Princess flying boats and the Bristol Brabazon and North American XB-70 Valkyrie landplanes. In bringing the subject up-to-date with the Boieing 747, he shows how giant aeroplanes have become outstanding technological and commercial successes. The author served as a pilot and flying instructor in the RAF from 1945 to 1948 and is the author of Plane Speaking and Rolls-Royce Aero .

  • A well writen book by a knowlegable author.

A very well writen book with lots of data on the various planes chosen for review. I have wanted to read this book for some time as was not disapointed in either the selection or details given. I only needed data for the Northrop flying wings but could not resist the other aircraft's details. Money well spent!!
