About this product

Product Information

Gyruss is a classic game that is quite innovative for its time. Released in 1983, it involves tackling the enemies' spaceships, which must all be destroyed to complete the level. The enemies can shoot or destroy your ship by contact. If you fail to take down any spaceship, it flies away while others appear. Other enemies in this game include laser beam generators, asteroids and satellites. It features background music that is an electronic arrangement of the organ music 'Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565' by J.S. Bach. Take down as many enemies as possible to level up as you encounter more challenging scenes in the game.

  • An arcade port that misses arcade elements; but still fun to play.

Konami's classic arcade hit gets a port on the Nintendo Entertainment System by Ultra; Konami's spin-off developer for NES games. The arcade version was simple by design but entertaining and challenging to play. The NES port adds so much extra stuff that it only looks and feels like Gyruss. Once the game play begins, it's easy to see that the only thing Gyruss is the ship and how it moves. Players embark on a space journey (arcade-style) through planet systems starting with Pluto and ending with Earth. Reaching each planet requires a set number of warps (sub-levels). At each warp, the player battles enemy spacecrafts in order to advance the game. In the arcade version, the player was presented with a Chance Stage to earn bonus points. This NES port remains true to the arcade port ...

  • An often overlooked Classic!!!

This game is a classic, and it was quite innovative for it's time. It has an unusual structure that will leave you wondering why more shooterspaceship games aren't made this good. It's challenging me still to this day, and if you've seen enough of Space Invaders, Galaga etc., this will be right up your alley. It was recently released on Virtual Console for Wii, but the remake is nowhere near as good as the original, they ruined it! I won't get into the games specifics as this is just my opinion, but buy an old copy today and you will be thrilled!

  • Gyrus-old and nice

This is a classic game. You fight in space against other spaceships. Very nice!
