An entertaining fantasy type film with great special effects and an interesting story-line, fun film not to be taken too seriously; any movie that is worth watching more than one or twice is worthy of adding to your collection, hence this is in mine.

I bought the film because i had watched it on television and liked it that much i wanted my own copy, it is a good adventure film totally unbeleivable in parts the special effects are quite good too, there is nothing i dislike about film action more or less from start to finish.
Hey, let me run this idea up the flagpole and see who salutes it,"Comic book super heroes are mega-buck box office smashes, right?, so why don't we make a film of old time super heroes from those old comics called books?"."Wow that's a brilliant idea, what are we going to call it?". And so was born the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.Headed by Sean Connery as Allan Quartermain fron King Solomons Mines by H.Rider Haggard and featuring The Invisible Man by H.G.Wells who has suddenly become a cockney wide boy tealeaf, with Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde who is not just in moral decline but also indestructible,Supported by Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson who seems to have over-done it with the steroids and Grow-more plant food to become Mr Play-doh with arms like trees, and also Captain Nemo from 20 thousand leagues under the sea by Jules Verne who is not only a salty old sea dog but also a martial arts expert,a master swordsman and possessing Knowledge of the internal combustion engine and advanced marine engineering way ahead of it's time, and not forgetting the ladies, ably but mysteriously represented by a close friend of Van Helsing and Dracula, who Bram Stoker probably forgot he had put in the book, and covering the rear it's the American sharp shooting dude by....America. The villains of the piece are The Phantom who seems to be a generic construct of all Phantoms that have gone before and Dr Morriarty, who lets face, could'nt be left out.The plotline goes so far, turns round on itself and kicks itself up the backside, and the idea of squeezing a submarine the size of the Empire State Building down the canals of Venice is the brainchild of a Lunatic.Having said all this, you are probably wondering why I've given it 4 out of 5, it's because if you can put all that in a lead box,tie a concrete block around it and dump it in the canals of Venice(providing there is room)then you can enjoy the film for what it is, A visually effective, fast paced piece of hocum with good special effects, like being on a rollercoaster with your brain switched to standby. If you require thought provoking,in depth cinema with a taught storyline then avoid this like a guy with trees for arms, but if you simply want to sit and be entertained then this is your cup of Earl Grey tea from a teabag.enjoy.Read full review
i bought the film " the league of extraordinary gentlemen 2004" because a member of my family watched the film on the television and they really enjoyed it. so i thought that it would be a good idea to buy the dvd so they can watch it again
I BOUGHT THIS AS I HAD NEVER GOT ROUND TO SEEIGN IT AT THE CINEMA, BUT HAVIGN A VERY BIG PROJECTOR SCREEN DECIDED THAT IT WOULD STILL BE WORTH SEEING. IT CAM UP ON EBAY AND WAS CHEAP ENOUGH SO I BOUGHT IT. SO ONE RAINNY DAY I PUT IT IN THE DV PLAYER AND AFTER VERY ANNOYING CREDITS AND TRAILERS FOR FOR SOME VERY DULL LOOKIGN FILMS(WHICH YOU COUDL NOT SKIP) THE FILM STARTED. THE QULITY WAS EXCELLNT AND THE SCRIPT WHILE NOT AMAZING HAD SOEM GOOD LINES. THE PLOT WAS CLEVER AND THE DISPITE BEIGN A FANTASY THE CARICHTERS MANAGED TO APPEAR BELIVBLE. THE CONCLUSION WAS ENVITABLE BUT GOOD NETHER THE LESS. I THINK THE CINEMATIC QAULITIES OF THE FILM WOULD BE LOST ON ANYTHIN BELOW 50"'S BUT IF YOU HAVE A BIG ENOUGH SCREEN THEN THIS WILL EASLIY WHIEL AWAY A WINTERS AFTERNOON.
