Born into a poor, dysfunctional family led by a coke-addicted father and blind, HIV-positive mother (Kelly Lynch in an equally powerful performance), Liz spends her formative years exposed to the drugs and neglect that eventually drive her toward living on the streets of New York at age 15. It isn't until her mother's death from AIDS that Liz decides to turn her life around by going back to high school, becoming a star student, and earning a scholarship to Harvard University through an essay contest sponsored by the New York Times. This tough, unsparing account of Liz's personal transformation garnered three Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Made for Television Movie and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Made for TV Movie.

    Great real life story of a young girl with drug-addicted parents that went from being homeless to graduation from Harvard.

    Students were intrigued with this real-life story of a homeless girl. She went from not attending school to a group home and eventually finished high school in two years and got accepted into Harvard where she graduated from. Students also were interested in the interview of the real Liz Murray which the movie portrayed.

    Love movie, but bought as gift!

    I really enjoyed this movie, it is based on a true story and it is both sad and happy. My daughter has wanted to own this movie for a while and had been asking me to find it for her for a while so I finally found it and was able to get it for her.

    I couldn't think of a better title. "Homeless to Harvard" is exactly what the story is about.
