21st century New York City is (still) an overpopulated mess, and the only food left is Soylent Green, a soyabean and lentil concoction with an extra-special, government-mandated ingredient. As police detective Thorn (Charlton Heston) investigates a murder, he learns of a conspiracy with bizarre implications and discovers the horrifying truth about Soylent Green's secret ingredient. Interesting, will make you think.
I did see Solyent Green when I was younger and remember being very taken with it, I bought it to see if my memory of it is correct. Very good film and I hope that our world does not end up in such a state. The death scene of Edward G Robinson was heartbreaking, as he had so little time left himself, but it was also very peaceful. Definitely recommend!

An unjustly-neglected, well-acted and powerful film.
I hadn't seen this film before I bought it, a friend told me about it. It's very interesting and certainly entertaining. The story-line is gripping and the presentation works very well. The blood is strangely unreal, but then I haven't read the book: perhaps it's supposed to be like that. The film definitely makes me want to hunt down a copy of the book to get the full story. I'm surprised the film doesn't get more airplay on the television. It's also quite difficult to get a Region 2 version on DVD!I hadn't seen this film before I bought it, a friend told me about it. A fictional picture I went to see 45 years ago, now watching the DVD does not seem so far fetched . It is a little dated but probably closer to the truth or direction we may be going in, certainly a film worth watching.

About global warming considering this film is over 50 years old it hasn't aged and is near the mark for these modern times I rate this film seen it many times before but so many of my friends haven't don't see it on TV or film channel so now see what they make of it if you've never seen it well worth a fiver
