This item does work without the usb but also important to note i noticed feedback saying it would not function on the ps2 slim, this is a lie as it works perfectly fine on mine, although the instructions do not say, i made sure to do a little digging & you must first connect via the RCA (AV) cable that comes with the console an go into system config then select component video out and change it from RGB to Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr then exit back, you now can use this device and play games via hdmi \m/ ty

Excellent seller, quick dispatch & arrived in perfect condition. Unfortunately , tho' no fault by the seller, I didn't notice that this item does not work with the PS 2 Slim version. I still tried it in case it may have worked, but no go. I only blame myself so I don't want to downgrade the seller. I also don't intend to return the item as it was only £4,75 and it will cost me nearly that in return postage & packing. I will put it down to experience & be more thorough in future orders.
