About this product

Product Information

A seductive retelling of the legendary tale, BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA is Francis Ford Coppola's opulent, erotic, blood-filled feast. Count Dracula (played with irresistible intensity by Gary Oldman) reunites with his soul mate, Mina (Winona Ryder), after four centuries. Mina's friend Lucy (Sadie Frost) succumbs to the deadly bite of Dracula while Renfield (Tom Waits), locked in an asylum, eagerly waits for his master's return. Mina's fiancé, Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves), with the help of the eccentric Professor Van Helsing (Anthony Hopkins), attempts to save Mina's life and soul before she can become Dracula's eternal bride. After Dracula attacks Mina's friend Lucy (Sadie Frost), Dr. Jack Seward (Richard E. Grant) calls in the legendary Professor Van Helsing (Anthony Hopkins) to cure Lucy's "disease of the blood." Jonathan escapes from the castle and he and Mina are married while Lucy dies and is resurrected as a vampire. When Dracula appears to Mina in her sleep, she declares her undying love for him. Professor Van Helsing, Jack Seward, and Lucy's fiancé, Arthur Holmwood (Cary Elwes), join Jonathan and travel to Transylvania to destroy Dracula, but Mina tries to save her tortured lover.Musician Tom Waits appears in the film as Renfield, a Victorian lunatic singing the praises of Dracula. Ornate costume design and lighting awash in shades of blood make this film a seductive and scary must-see. In his version of the oft-told tale, Francis Ford Coppola takes Bram Stoker's archetypical horror story and accentuates the romantic angle. Blood still flows in large amounts, and Coppola opted to do all the eye-pleasing visual effects in-camera, utilizing shadow puppets, smoke, miniatures, and other time-honored tricks of the trade--creating a visual style not unlike that of a storybook come to life.

    Spooky and well-done book adaptation

If you've ever read Bram Stoker's Dracula, you will be impressed with this movie and how it remains true to the story while fleshing out the visuals as only a movie can. The character development and suspense were spot-on and, apart from a few movie-making departures, told the story in a dramatic, colorful way. Totally recommend the movie to add another layer to the book, so if you love horror and Dracula, see this movie!!

  • Bram Stoker's Dracula (2001, DVD) Superbit

In my opinion, one of the best Dracula movies ever made. It's atmospheric, well shot and has an excellent cast. I bought the DVD because it's a movie that I enjoy watching and will be watching it a good couple more times. The Superbit version is really the one to get as both the video & audio quality are top notch. So if you are looking to get Bram Stoker's Dracula, and don't really care about extras, look no further than the Superbit version!

  • Take a seat...And take a Bite out of time

Ive decided that im going to only write the reviews on items that i can give a 5 star rating to. If you see me reviewing and item, its for one reason. ITS WORTH THE TIME TO TAKE A LOOK AT. So this one has my thumbs up approval. LET EBAY KNOW YOU VALUE MY REVIEW AND VOTE ME TODAY! THANK YOU! This reminds me of a documentary. Its nice to change the pace and watch something like this.

  • The BEST Dracula version

Anyone that is a huge fan of the 1992 version of Bram Stoker's Dracula will love this DVD. The movie is of course fabulous. The second DVD has loads of extras including "Making of the film", past and present interviews with the stars. There is a great documentary on the visual effects as well! Lots of deleted scenes (love those) and an ALTERNATIVE ENDING! Definately a great addition to any Dracula collection!

  • Most Acceptable Rendering?

Despite the presence of Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder,(plus Anthony Hopkins' dubious dialogue), Coppola's Dracula is truly a feast for the eyes and ears. Gary Oldman is great, as usual, and the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard. All in all, a lavishly beautiful production that pretty much attained "classic" status immediately.
