I received a response from the seller the same day I posted my original feedback. Apparently the original message I had sent to them had not gone through and they responded to a follow-up message. Once they were aware of the issue, they offered both a sincere apology and an offer to refund the money for my purchase. I ultimately decided to keep the item, because even with the damage, it appeared to be in better shape than other alternatives of similar price. They are reviewing their packaging.
