I didn't think that a show that featured "ultraman"-like characters would keep me entertained like it did when I first saw it. It had over-the-top characters, exciting action scenes and good plot, which wouldn't hold up well in today's standards of television but in the 70's it works really well. While some of the "Giant" fight scenes contain some errors in camera work, it is excusable due to the production limits of its time. The characters have that unique attraction that make you like them once you see how they interact with one another. The villains, while goofy at first glace, pull off their evil ways quite well. If anyone can find this series, don't hesitate to pick it considering its cheap and it provides high entertain value. It has a decent amount of tv time as well so you are getting more bang for your buck, especially since it does contain a booklet that has a ton of information on the show. Pick it up, you won't regret it!Read full review
A classic 70's Japanese hero show, good stuff. Go for the 4 disc set if you can find it, the 3 disc is lower quality and has sync issues with the subtitles.

Typical silly 70's Japanese tv series. Great fun. But not for those who take it too seriously. It is very easily found fairly cheaply on E-bay. I would not pay full retail for it.
nothing to love about this iron-king ,very poor made tv show from the 70"s,waste of money ,nothing to see .
Spaghetti western-style singing cowboy who is actually a ruthless Japanese secret agent with a metal whip battles various colorfully-clad terrorist groups armed with monstrous giant robots with the help of his silly red-hatted comic relief sidekick who secretly has the ability to transform into the title towering titan of technology IRON KING! The show doesn't really make a lick of sense, but gosh and golly it sure is fun. Fight scenes like you used to have alone in the back yard, your imagination going into overdrive as you battled dozens of frenzied foes in one last desperate attempt to save the world... only done with real live grown-up stuntmen dressed in weird costumes! Incredibly bizarre special effects that look phony as all heck, but you don't care because everyone put so much energy and creativity into them that you cheer their sheer audaciousness! Male bonding to such an intensely silly degree that it would not be seen again until the modern "bromance" movie! Eye-searing seventies fashions usually taken out of the actors' own closets! A hero singing actual Japanese folk songs from centuries past because then the studio didn't have to pay for the music rights! Shows like "Ultraman" and "Spectreman" may be better known and equally obscure Japanese superheroes like "Mirrorman" might be better written, but "Iron King" has a wacked out charm all its own and is definitely worth taking a look at. Word of advice though... do try and make the extra effort to find the original 2007 release from BCI Eclipse rather than the 2010 reissue from Mill Creek Entertainment. Both are equal in quality picture and sound-wise (in other words not too bad for an obscure Japanese show no-one has seen for over 35 years but not exactly perfect by any means), but the one from BCI came with a booklet by August Ragone detailing the history of the series with all sorts of bizarre background information that really adds to the enjoyment of the episodes.Read full review
