Excellent! This band "hit it hard" from the start and started about late '91 or early '92 at "Robers Western World" as best as I remember. My Ex-wife and I rented a room from 'Robert' at the "Mansion" at the time and was right in the middle of this historical event! I personally knew this band and saw them every day as they evolved into what was know as the band the world knew. This was not the case at the start as a man that I knew as "Bones" played 'electric' bass and a 'sax' player they called 'Bugs' was an original part of the band. Later as time went on and the band "polished" itself ""Smilin'" Jay McDowell" took over playing 'upright' bass and "Don Herron" (that was still under contract w/ "Marty Haggard" Merles' brother) was good friends with Gary Bennett and as soon as the contract was up he was a part of the band! What is a strange and very coincidental piece of history is that Marty Haggard played at the "W.K. Kellogg Auditorium" the previous year before Don Herron joined BR5-49 and after the show I got a chance to meet the band, But Jet Williams (the daughter of Hank Sr.) also played that night along w/ the drifting cowboys and I never got a chance to talk to Don Herron as I took opportunity to get autographs from Jet and the Drifting Cowboys. - (I FEEL IT A GREAT PRIVILEGE THAT I GOT A CHANCE TO MEET BOTH "Don Helm" and "Jerry Rivers"!) That were touring w/ Jet Williams at the time. Anyway, back to BR5-49, I have "Early" recording of the band when they 'first' started at Roberts' before anyone ever heard of BR5-49 (other than Hee-Haw) Junior Samples would be proud! :-) (write me at)- packrat297@yahoo.com - DaveRead full review
Mead's later attempts were much better than BR5-49! I saw by accident an an old clipping and I watched because I had heard Slow Train Thru Arkansas and, heard also that BR5-49 was great! It proved to be, NOT!
