"The Boondocks - Complete First Season",an animated series, is based on the syndicated comic strip by cartoonist Aaron MacGruder. MacGruder satirizes race relations and contemporary culture in a dry, cynical way throughout this three-disc set. "The Boondocks - Complete First Season" available in a three-disc set follows protagonist Huey, a 10-year-old revolutionary-in-training, and Riley, his 8-year-old brother and future gangster. These black boys have been moved from their home on Chicago's South Side to the suburban "boondocks" to live with their grandfather, where they get into trouble and comment freely upon the idiosyncrasies--to put it mildly--of the white people in whose culture they are now immersed. In "The Boondocks - Complete First Season", Huey and Riley debate on R. Kelly, Huey directs "The Adventures of Black Jesus" for the school Christmas play and Grandad opens up Woodcrest's first soul-food restaurant. This animated show appeared on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

Big Fan
I've always been a fan of adult-level animated entertainment. The creator, Aaron McGruder, did a masterful job of shedding some light into the thoughts and minds of young and old black Americans in funny, yet thought-provoking way. I will purchase every season of this show I can find.

Good Stuff
I heard a lot of talk about this show, in fact it was A LOT of talk. Having never seen the show or been a fan of most adult based cartoons, i wasn't expecting much. I asked a few people about the show and got some opinions. I liked what i heard and ended up buying it. I really like this show. It has a great sense of adult humor and well developed characters and stories. It has quite a wide range of character personalities which keeps it interesting. There's the old grandpa who believes in physical punishment and wants to escape the urban society, the older grandson who is clever and realistic and always looks at things on a wide scale, and the younger grandson who is cocky and brings the element of humor. You can't forget the old black man who believes black people are a waste to society ... I heard a lot of talk about this show, in fact it was A LOT of talk. The DVD itself has about 15 episodes if i remember correctly. It is spread through 3 DVDs which still has me confused why. There isn't much for extras. There are a few episodes where you can watch video and audio commentary while watching the show simultaneously. There are also a few interviews, but nothing amazing. If you're looking for a show with clever humor, and a wide variety of plots that actually focus on some real life events, i highly recommend this DVD. If you watch for it on Adult Swim you could probably find an episode or two to really get a feel for what you're buying.

“Jesus is black, Ronald Reagan is the devil, and the government is lying to you about 9/11.” The controversial, but funny, series that was a hit on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim makes it onto DVD in this uncut and uncensored set. I’ll have to admit that I’ve never seen the Boondocks on Cartoon Network. So I’m not sure exactly how censored they are on there, but I can imagine that it’s quite a lot. I have a vague familiarity with the comic strip and know that it’s a controversial one. Strip creator Aaron McGruder decided to bring his strip to television with all the controversy intact, no softening here. The shows is not afraid to use the “N” word, throw a chicken leg at Rosa Parks, or have one of its funniest characters be the black man who hates blacks. Tom Dubois (Cedric Yarbrough) is a their light skinned black District Attorney neighbor whose married to a white woman and has a half and half daughter Jazmine (Gabby Soleil). They’re also visited by the hilarious Uncle Ruckus (Gary Anthony Williams) who is a black man who wishes for the days of Jim Crow to return since he hates his own race.

The Boondocks touch on day to day issues but with a reverse approach to lure your unconscious side. I mean, The way they attack todays social and political topics is clever. For instance Uncle Rucker this guy glorifies everything that the caucasian man has ever done or took credit for. In his quest to be accepted as a caucasian he devotes his life to riding himself of his own ethnic heritage thus reflecting what many African americans unconsciously do everyday. We lose ourselves trying to assimilate other ethnic groups. Hell the storylines are just funny as Hell too! Not to condone stereotyping but this series has a lot of ...
