I sanded all parts to 40P grain, then to a 180 and finally to 240 before applying a varnish coat (3 hours). Overall, think of this as unfinished furniture or a project for later painting, sanding, it'll get just basic "living room" standard, unless you are going for super-rustic. Assembly is easy. Seller is helpful.
