This kit is by far a classic kit. The model is molded in black, silver and clear. There is some molding flash on some of the pieces. This cleans up very easily. The decals are slightly yellowed. This is due to the age of the kit. It is a repop on the original done in 1975. Been in steady production since. This one was done in 1997. 23 years old and the factory shrink wrap is still intact. To remove yellowing I set the decals in a sunny window for awhile, anywhere from a few days till a few weeks, just enought time to remove the yellow but not start fading the colors of the decals. You should check them every few days for progress. There is no warpage of the parts. All the parts are still on the trees. Monogram didn't bag there parts at that time period. The instructions are well done. They are clear and consice. The drawings are very accurate of the actual model pieces and the location in the fuselage or wing. There is an abundance of photo etch add-on kits available for this kit. I am using the cockpit, Bombay, radiomens compartment, waist gunners area, and the tail gunners compartment and lastly but not least the engine P.E. detail set. Also got the brass gun barrels for the tail and chin turret. I know, I know very little of the original plane left!!! 😆 ive gotten many other detail P.E. pieces for the flaps, etc. The Build with the accessories being added and painting, decaling will take approximately 90 to 100 hours. But the results are worth the work. Monograms B-17 is a wonderful base build with lots of upgrades, turn out a very well detailed display piece. Monogram kits are great the are versatile for any level builder. From novice to a master modeler. You can't go wrong with Monograms B-17 "Flying Fortress" as a centerpiece display for WW II aircraft.Read full review

Fantastic model! You can find no better, for this time period or any other. I had one when I was a teenager, and have acquired another now that I’m going on 60! This 1975 edition is excellent, I swear the plastic looks like it was molded with liquid metal! It has a metallic sheen unlike anything I’ve seen. I know they are still producing this model today, but I have not opened one to see if they still look like the original. You know they love to change things these days. I fully recommend this kit to anyone, and I suggest getting the older model, there’s plenty of them out their, and it doesn’t cost but a little more than the kit of today.

It went together pretty good, and I'm no expert. I thought the details were very good. The decals were fine too but I went w/a "Memphis Bell" nose art decal. I know that the Memphis Bell was not a "G" but I wasn't shooting for authenticity. It was so big, it wouldn't fit in my spray booth. So, I had to paint it outside in the August desert heat. But it was well worth my time and money just the same. My only complaint is that some of the windows had to be mounted from the outside and some from the inside...making painting & masking more tedious. A great and long awaited addition to my collection. I hope this review was helpful.
