    A Splendid Double-DVD Edition

There are almost too many versions of A Christmas Carol -- and too many iterations of this particular film, directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and released in 1951, starring Alastair Sim -- to keep up with. In the particular two-disc version at hand, the movie appears in both black-and-white and colorized versions, and letterboxed and full-screen. My preference is for the full-screen version in black-and-white, which looks fine, although the sound is still an issue, as is the case with a lot of older movies. The other element that makes this edition special is a pretty fair transfer of the 1935 version of A Christmas Carol starring Sir Seymour Hicks, whose interpretation of the character of Scrooge is well worth watching as well -- that film looks and sounds a bit rough (no restoration work ...

  • A Christmas Classic in Color and B&W and a bonuse too!

I have always enjoyed A Christmas Carol (Scrooge) with Alastair Sim. This double DVD has it in classic B&W, with two views of it in B&W, a smaller screen and a larger screen version (both full screen, but in one the characters, etc are bigger) and the colorized version, well done for a colorized version (I am a B&W purist, and generally don't like them colorized.) I looked for years for this to be sold in stores and did not see it for years and then did at Walmart one day (only) when I was in a hurry. I did not get it and they were all gone when I got back. The other Wal-Marts were sold out too. So, finding this on eBay was great, as I needed my Christmas Carol fix. This is a great movie, not just for Christmas time, but all year, to keep one in a Christmas spirt, which ...

  • Best Version Ever of A Christmas Carol hands down.

My Whole Family loves this movie. I grew up watching it every year. It isn't Christmas unless you watch this Version. I know every scene & line in this movie & never get tired of it. I first saw it when I was about 4 years old & I'm still watching it at 55. Alister Sim is great as Scrooge, no one else comes close. Why would I buy it when I can see it every year on tv? Because the Colorized version shows you so much more than the black & white version. Check out Scrooge's Coat in his office in the beginning of the movie, it's ripped & tattered as compared to the ending when he's wearing nicer clothing, you don't see that in the Black & white version. Also it's great to watch it in Surround sound. P.S. look for a blooper at the end ...

  • A CHRISTMAS CAROL , never more to be seen....

This verson of the classic CHRISTMAS CAROL by Dickins , is the best , the best because it has a message to the viewer about conscience and what demons greed have and cumulative effect......Most viewers want , WHAT I CALL christmas nothingness , entertainment , sillyness and brain dead messages and tunes. This ( CHRISTMAS CAROL W/ ALISTAIR SIMMS .not a HOLLYWOOD beauty ) , is a must for all , an awakening to who we are and where we are going , consumerism was touched on by Charles Schultz , and the CHARLEY BROWN CHRISTMAS , ..Have you seen this one lately ?? , NO , ..wonder why ??/...ONLY BORING , COLORFUL , WHIZARD OD OZ , ...which by the way was always shown arround HALLOWEEN ,so treat yourself , see this black and white movie , relax and count your blessings , while you can.. kindly ...

  • Christmas Carol DVD

This is a classic Christmas movie and always make you re-think about the value of the world we live in. Make you feel warm and generous for this blessed giving season, although we should be sharing and giving all year long. The actors are really giving us the chance to feel their emotions, understand their fear and learn from their mistakes. The remastering (color version) is really well done and alot of detail has been given to make the best picture out of it. Alastair Sim is the best person to play Ebenezer Scroodge with his arrogant look, his uncaring person, his cheap way of living and his surprising unhuman replies. I recommend this movie for the kids of this generation, make sure you make them watch the colored version ... or they will leave the room. The english is a bit (english), ...
