Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's short story collection is brought to digital life in The Witcher, a single-player action RPG starring a monster hunter named Geralt. Players control the silver-haired Geralt in a fantasy world where dwarves, elves, and humans live in bitter seclusion and monsters roam freely. To defeat these creatures, Geralt can perform a variety of sword-swinging attacks from one of three switchable stances: fast, heavy, and group. Geralt can also use magic by conjuring up one of five mystical "signs," allowing him to blind, paralyze, or even incinerate foes. A total of 250 skills are available, allowing players to create distinct character builds for specific combat styles. <br><br>Geralt can supplement his attacks by creating potions, oils, and bombs with varying effects. Acquired recipes are used to create most concoctions, but players can also experiment by mixing ingredients at the risk of poisoning Geralt. In a twist from typical games in the genre, combat employs a timing-based system, where attacks are initiated each time an onscreen icon appears. Another distinguishing characteristic is The Witcher's emphasis on decision-making throughout the story. Players consistently make choices with no clear right or wrong answer, and these decisions will ultimately have repercussions later in the game. Developed by Poland's CD Projekt, The Witcher is powered by a modified version of BioWare's Aurora engine, previously used in Neverwinter Nights.<br><br>The Witcher: Enhanced Edition boasts of ten hours of new gameplay content and more than 100 new animation sequences, all while improving game stability, facial expressions, character animation, and combat, and reducing loading times by 80%.

well worth trying and worth the game play will provide hours of fun.
Was it a very good RPG with nice stylised violence, characterisation and story? Absolutely Yes. Was it a tad too linear? Yes..unfortunately. It's easy to correct this ..I don't know why gaming companies don't address this problem and make a really good RPG a much better one. Was there a problem with too many NPC's looking like the rest? Yes, Can you say Clone Wars? Was there plenty of carnage and mayhem to go around? yes...oh yes! If I love sword-play will I like this game? yes...it's great. only bad part...the combo's are a bit of a pain to 'hit' right. But you'll still enjoy it. Will it play on my computer? I have an average duel core duo 2.13 with 2 gigs of RAM. Ran fine on mine with no crashes so far. it is pretty smooth animation wise. Did it provide plenty of gaming fun and ... Absolutely. Like more than 100 hours I am sure. Could the monsters have been done better? Yes...they lacked some artistic value...sadly enough. Especially the undead and ghoulies. I liked Geralt and loved the way they payed attention to the "Nuetral" theme in life. One of the best quotes I still remember was by one of his dwarf friends that said "The worst evil is moral relativity". Great stuff..go dwarves. You won't regret buying this game. Unfortunately...I don't think it has a terribly high replay value though. So wait till it comes down in price..like under 15-20 bucks.

The controls are not very intuitive at first, nor is the alchemy. Once you get a handle on the controls it is a good game. The graphics and attention to detail are very nice. My one complaint is that the inventory of the character is too small. You can't carry multiple swords off of dead enemies. Your inventory fills up very quickly. Also the equipment doesn't have a lot of variety or choice or customization. You are basically stuck with the same sword wielding leather armor wearing character no matter what. The plot isn't always clear what's going on, despite the best efforts to translate from Polish, it is still occassionally unclear. Greatest Western RPG aside from Mass Effect
The Witcher Enhanced Edition has fixed every single problem I had with the original release. It never crashes, loads hundreds of times faster, looks better, and has been changed for the better. The extras that come with it are really nice considering the fact that the price has not changed. The story is great, if a little bit on the long side. Combat is nice and fluid, with a deep buffing system that encourages you to utilize alchemy, food, drink, magic, and upgrade items to win fights. The game still looks really good, despite being release in 2007. The only thing that really shows age are the facial animations, which are pretty bad compared to the quality of everything else. Fans of games with deep lore will love the huge amount of backstory you get in the game (and in the excerpts ... the witcher game review
the witcher is a superb polish rpg set in the setting of a series of books by some guy whose name i cant pronounce. The plot is great, graphics are amazing (breath taking scenery, character are well developed, and everything feels just right in the combat system. awesome game, good lore, epic monster, uber protagonist ^_^ . I am officially a fan of CDprojekt solely because of this game
