I like both of the authors. The story start very hard science when a colony being set up on a large comet. They will build a tunnel system in the ice below the surface. They will have a water source and possible organic compound to built a small closed ecosystem. They are surprised to discover that the comet already has live in it. The colony forms its whole society, slang language, and behavior. The idea that life might not have started on Earth but out there is explored. The end of the story things start to get very strange. There many weird creatures some of who used to be human. It is not a boring book.
