While P.F. Sloan was a force in the 60s writing hit songs for the likes of Johnny Rivers, The Turtles, The Grass Roots, The Searchers, Jan and Dean, Herman's Hermits, Barry McGuire and others, I found little to really excite me on Anthology. Sloan's own version of "Eve of Destruction," for example, seems absolutely tame for a protest song. One bright spot for me was "City Women." While many of the songs he wrote are intertwined inextricably with my youth, Anthology just isn't for me. No text. Very limited liner notes.
