About this product

Product Information

Kerouac's candid and definitive insider's record of the key figures and events surrounding the Beat Generation, Desolation Angels had gained a reputation as an underground classic long before publication in 1964. Told through the character of Kerouac's fictional alter ego, Jack Duluoz, the novel follows the story of his last legendary road trip, accompanied by his thinly-disguised Beat counterparts, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso and William Burroughs. From California to Mexico and on to opium-ridden Tangiers, Kerouac chronicles the frenetic parties, the drink and the drugs, the poetry and the mountain vigils with unsurpassable energy.

  • Desolation angels

Start with On the road. Then Dharma bums before reading Desolation Angels. There are some good pieces of writing, but there's a sadness of searching throughout the book. The start of the author's demise. I enjoyed it. It's a keeper on the bookshelf.

  • Jack Kerouac, telling it like it was.

I read this book for the first time, back in around 1966. There was something about this telling of his time as a fire watch volunteer that struck a chord with me. Kerouac tells it like it was. This book arrived in first class condition, unmarked, uncreased and looks great in my little library. Highly recommended read. Highly recommended.
