The Grace Darling Workbook is a resource book for parents and teachers wanting to teach their children about Grace Darling using cross curricular activities. The new history curriculum requires children to learn about significant historical events, people and places in their own locality.There are a wide variety of activities in this workbook including activities to be used in literacy lessons such as poetry, storytelling, writing a play script and newspaper report, nonfiction and fiction activities. The book also contains instructions to make a model, and a recipe to make gingerbread that can be used as a resource in literacy. Numeracy activities include measuring out ingredients, calculating money and telling the time. Geometry using co-ordinates and sorting. There are some mapping activities to be used as part of their geography lessons and the activities will also help to strengthen their geographical vocabulary. Activities include fact finding regarding the wildlife of the Farne islands can be used as science activities which is part of life processes and living things. As Grace Darling lived in Victorian times there are some activities within based on Victorian times and how things have changed today. There are design and technology activities inside such as making a lighthouse pencil holder and using a template to make a paper lighthouse. Activities inside are suitable across the primary age range for both key stage one and key stage two.
