Synopsis
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - The bestselling author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is at her superb best in this fun-loving, moving novel about what it means to be truly alive. WINNER OF THE SOUTHERN BOOK PRIZE Elmwood Springs, Missouri, is a small town like any other, but something strange is happening at the cemetery. Still Meadows, as it's called, is anything but still. Original, profound, The Whole Town's Talking, a novel in the tradition of Thornton Wilder's Our Town and Flagg's own Can't Wait to Get to Heaven, tells the story of Lordor Nordstrom, his Swedish mail-order bride, Katrina, and their neighbors and descendants as they live, love, die, and carry on in mysterious and surprising ways. Lordor Nordstrom created, in his wisdom, not only a lively town and a prosperous legacy for himself but also a beautiful final resting place for his family, friends, and neighbors yet to come. "Resting place" turns out to be a bit of a misnomer, however. Odd things begin to happen, and it starts the whole town talking. With her wild imagination, great storytelling, and deep understanding of folly and the human heart, the beloved Fannie Flagg tells an unforgettable story of life, afterlife, and the remarkable goings-on of ordinary people. In The Whole Town's Talking, she reminds us that community is vital, life is a gift, and love never dies. Praise for The Whole Town's Talking "A witty multigenerational saga . . . A rocky start after I had to NUDGE the Seller into checking on my order after MORE than a week with NOTHING happening... But Seller communication was GOOD and the item showed up, well packaged, within the delivery window. Item was well priced, and they had a series that I STRUGGLED to find elsewhere, in NEW condition. I would recommend this seller if you can't find it elsewhere, that's the best I can give them.

5 stars Great seller—made it right when USPS didn’t. The item was marked as delivered on May 27th to a “reception area,” even though I live in a single-family home. Clearly a USPS error. I reached out to the seller, who responded quickly and assured me the book was on the way. It finally arrived safely on June 7th. Not the seller’s fault, and I appreciate their professionalism and communication throughout. Would buy from them again.

  • Gimmicks, Pipedreams, and Cheap Tricks

This book is made up of gimmicks, clichés, claptrap, pipedreams, and cheap tricks, a dully written knock-off magical realist rendition of Sherwood Anderson's "Winesburg, Ohio." The only reason to continue reading it, other than that it was a selection of my Book Club, was to find out what happened at the end. And that's not enough reason to plow through 400 pages of mundane babble.

  • The title is perfect for the book.

This book reminds me of some the folks who raised me. It's almost like reading about the hometown where my sister and I grew up.
