  • OK for new teachers, nothing specific to higher education

    I was a brand new college instructor and had hoped I could find something that would give me insights into teaching older students (I had experience with kids 18 and under). Some fellow instructors recommended this book quite highly, so bought it. With the subhead "Strategies, Research and Theory for College and University Teachers", I was hoping for insightful, research-based strategies that would help me step up my university game. Unfortunately, I have yet to find anything compelling. The book provides good basic principles of teaching and assessment but it's nothing I didn't already know or do with 12 year olds. It's also somewhat boring (I guess university instructors don't need entertaining prose.) If you are new to teaching, and/or had mediocre training, this will help you teach ...
