Synopsis
Claims that technology brings families closer together seem out of sync with kids who retreat to their mobile devices for hours at a time. Assurances of amazing technology learning opportunities are contradicted by kids' obsessive use of entertainment technologies-video games, social networks, and texting-that supplant their focus on school. In "Wired Child," child and adolescent psychologist Dr. Richard Freed exposes the powerful myths that underlie our kids' use of technology. These myths have encouraged the "wiring up" of a generation of youth, seducing kids to spend endless hours with digital self-amusements that damage family bonding and education, and put kids at risk of addiction. "Wired Child" uses the science of behavior and brain function to provide a common-sense guide to build the strong families kids need, promote their success in school, and encourage their productive use of technology., A practical guide to building your child's bond with family and fostering school success amid the allure of digital screens Kids' obsessive use of video games, social media, and texting is eclipsing their connections with family and school-the two most important contributors to their well-being. The result: a generation of kids who suffer from soaring rates of emotional and academic problems, with many falling prey to an epidemic of video game and internet addictions. In Wired Child, learn why a bevy of social media friends won't keep teens from feeling empty inside and turning to cutting for relief. See how our kids have become smartphone experts who struggle in reading, math, and the other educational basics that colleges consider in deciding admissions. And discover how many "child-friendly" technologies are depriving kids of joy in the real world, putting them at risk for device addictions. Wired Child gives you the confidence and skills you need to safely navigate your children through a rapidly shifting media landscape. Dr. Freed offers concrete parenting strategies that will help you create the strong family kids need and encourage their school success. You'll also learn how to protect kids from destructive tech addictions, and instead guide them to use technology productively as a positive force for their future.

- n***d (49)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseExcellent seller. Package was delayed ( by bad weather) and then misplaced at PO( placed in wrong box #) but I contacted the seller and they responded quickly and I got my item today. This seller went the extra mile and I would highly recommend them and will shop here again. I also want to say the price for this complete hard to find item was way below most of the other listings. Condition was good as stated, and although I've only watched the first disc it's quality is good. - 6***t (479)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchasePurchasing form this company can at times be frustrating due to items never arriving, very low shipping time and the inability to track the items. But I gave them another chance and purchased many maps and books over the past few months and have received all of them. Last year, it was hit and miss. All items were in the condition as described. Packaging is minimal. The only downside is extremely slow shipping. I rate them a C+. Nothing to gloat about but eventually you will get what you wanted.
