      Tri-Band in a pinch

      The Yaesu YHA-63 works in a pinch, but obviously a mono band or dual band VHF/UHF antenna outperforms it. This small antenna is for nearby repeater use or very close simplex. I like to pair it with a Yaesu VR-500 receiver with a Miracle Whip IL tuner, both of which are no longer made. When used with those two devices it pulls in HF signals reasonably well, considering its size. This keeps it portable and avoids damage a telescoping whip would have. I have another YHA-63 I keep with the 817ND. It is a functioning compromise antenna. If you plan on using it for 6m, do yourself a favor and roll out a correctly length of counterpoise wire attached to the 817 ground screw. For a 2m/70cm BNC whip antenna, I recommend the Diamond RH951S. Although it is also designed for 1.2GHz, it performs ...

      Good things can come in a small package. This antenna works well on the three bands listed, 6M/2M/70cm. It is a good addition to my QRP radio bag.
