The Fate of the Demeter is Horror!
In Bram Stoker's original novel, Dracula, he devoted a chapter to the Demeter voyage, a ship that brought Dracula to England. This movie expands that chapter, starting with the arrival of coffins to be boarded on the Demeter. The voyage is cursed right from the start when one of the coffins falls on a volunteer for the voyage, causing his death. This leaves an opening that is taken by another who wants to make his way back to England. He is a doctor, who has been unable to find work due to his color. The voyage originally seems to be ahead of schedule, until a young woman is found in one of the boxes. The superstitious sailors think a woman aboard is bad luck. If they only knew the real danger lurking the ship's cargo! I really enjoyed this movie. It is dark and suspenseful as one by one, the sailors die. The fate of the ship is known, if you have read Dracula, but this movie makes the reasons excellent viewing.
