    early 90s east-coast indy mojo: unmatched

    This unit has the mojo I was looking for. Sounds like 1993. Smells like it too. Includes the famed "MONK AKA" preset. Easy to use with the pedal board. The unit I picked up (used) needed a couple tweaks (new internal battery for user setting memory, and adjusted power button spring), to be expected with 25 year old road gear. Pick one up from the US if you can, because the east-coast nineties are still alive in them, and you know it was well loved. Not necessarily the "best" sounding effects in the modern world, but that's not I was looking for. I was looking for this.

    Great dream pop and shoegaze sounds

    Interesting effects, compact size, looks cool. Too be honest, the distortion effects are very fizzy, possibly amplified by the fact that there is no cabinet/amp simulator, just raw unprocessed guitar sound. However, you probably would buy this for reverb/chorus effects which it excels at. The famous soft focus effect sounds amazing, also has a reverse reverb effect which can emulate MBV sounds

    Good Guitar Processor

    These are a very nice guitar processor Except they didn't put a retainer clip or nut & washer to hold the 1/4" female jacks to the chassis. If you step on a cord it will crack the pc board & hurt the connections. The FX 550 they did put clips so they are solid but the FX 500 (in my opinion) has better presets & design.

    Yamaha fx 500 is a shoegaze hidden gem

    The Yamaha fx 500 is legendary to shoegaze bands like slowdive back in the day, I really enjoyed playing the soft focus patch alongside with the Loomer work station by Keeley, it's good to recreate the SPX 90 reverse/gate reverb unit if you want to sound like My Bloody Valentine, Especially when it came from Japan is a bonus for me 🙂
