    Inspired by the arcade's 1987 side-scrolling shooter, this 3D PS2 version of R-Type places players in control of a well-armed, side-scrolling spaceship for some old fashioned blast-away combat action. R-Type Final is designed to bring on the tense, fast-paced feel of the original coin-op game while adding console-friendly features such as customizable ships, multiple difficulty settings, and a mode that allows player to battle against AI-controlled versions of their own ships. Following the four games it introduced stateside in 2002, Fresh Games publishes R-Type Final in the U.S. and Canada, returning to its strategy of bringing distinct Japanese console games to North American gamers.

There was one promblem with a missing disc; I contacted the seller immediately and they kindly issued me a small refund to cover the missing disc, which I was very grateful for. Overall I'm happy with my purchase! I mean truthfully, I would have prefered the disc to the refund, but it already felt like a steal, so I wasn't too worried about it.

      Item is as described in new condition. It was well packaged (I appreciated the fact that the original box was put inside another box to protect it during transport). It looks adorable. The item was reasonably priced but the shipping cost to Canada ended up being unusually high considering the size of the box. I am very happy with my purchase though. Thank you!

      The main positives is that the product works, the price was pretty good compared to others, and the quality was almost as described. As for downsides, the packaging was very light and probably low quality (the casing broke immediately when received) and the pictures were so low quality it made it difficult to tell the wear of the product. Despite that, I am pleased with the product. I would recommend this seller if the price feels good enough to you.

      Great classic shoot em up

      Great variety is the strong point of this game. It has 100 customizable ships and 7 levels. Each level can be slightly different each time you play it (for example, you could go in level 2.1 instead of 2.0). However, like any other R-type games or most classic shoot em up, it suffers from slow pace problem. The camera is always moving slowly, even though you can adjust the speed of your ship. Every time you fail to beat the boss, you'll have to fall back to the check point. And it takes quite a while to reach the boss again because things are slow. It doesn't mean the game is easy though. Some projectiles can move pretty fast. To make matter worse, due to the limitation of ps2, sometimes, when things get crazy, it can go slow motion. It probably won't happen if they stick with 2d ...

      Best Game of Its Franchise

      Like the title states, this game is considered to be the pinnacle of the R-type series. Coming from one of the big-name shmup franchises, this game is solid. Great graphics, a multitude of ships and weapons options, good music/sound effects, this game is a must-have for shmup collectors. Like many others, I play this game in spurts from time to time unlocking ships here and there.
