Sequels are normally worse off than the original; always the plot is either unconvincing, predictable, characters boring, etc. I KNEW from reviews that this was going to be a bad one, but I was curious to know just how bad and now I wish I wasn't curious. This one doesn't have a plot. Why did the author bother, if she had nothing more to say? Well, there IS a plot, sort of. O returns to the mansion, now as a full-member. As such, she can now be paid for having sex with men. Great...isn't it. O chats with other girls. "How was that guy?" O asks. "He was a pig! paid me well though" says another girl. "Ah, bon..." This is not a plot; just two sex workers chatting. In place of a proper plot, there are meaningless revelations, e.g. mysterious brute of an aristocrat "Sir Stephen" turned out to be a Scot. He belongs to the "notorious Campbell clan (sic)". So his name is Stephen Campbell, then. THAT is not an aristocratic name, if you ask any Scot. That is a name of a self-employed builder in Glasgow who specialises in kitchen tiling and joinery and drives a white van with these details advertised on the body of the van. The author simply brings readers to the earth peeling off the veneer of mystery and suspense which masked the lack of plot in the original novel. Literally, this sequel is not a novel, I doubt if it qualifies as a novella; using large font more common to children's books and general use of blank pages and lengthy introduction to boot. The French publisher must have had nagged the author for a sequel for ages and when they finally received the manuscript, they must have wondered why did they bother. My feeling exactly, the same.

  • Continuation of Story of O part 1. Thin book, quick read

One could really do with reading this after the original, back to back. The journey of O is at times often shocking and disturbing, and changes her appearance and direction in life. As some one who has gone through tattooing and piercing, in some ways, I could relate to other people's altered perception of her. The novels aren't easy reading, and at times read like newspaper crime reports, but her journey makes you think. I read the two books about 30 years ago, before, and now I can evaluate and question them better. Story of O part 2 is a lot slimmer than the original, and it is suggested that readers were disappointed by the ending of the original.

  • VG is pushing it bit for the condition o...

VG is pushing it bit for the condition of the book - I don't expect a book from 1979 to be of exceptional quality but this is well worn and the pages brown and not all clean.
