Easy fit, but doesn't last forever.
This is the 3rd time that I have had to renew the engine on my Gainsborough shower in around 9 years, so on average they last 3 years. Our household is probably an 'average-user' household, so they're not failing as a result of too much use, in my opinion, so it must be a durability/quality issue. It is this finite life that moves me to rate it with 4 instead of 5 stars....I would have thought that something of this nature would last longer. On the plus side, it is a very easy job to replace the unit if you are a reasonably proficient DIYer, although of course one should always take care when around water and electricity together. If you need to ask a professional to fit it, they're going to achieve this in 30 minutes or so, so no massive fitting bill, hopefully. It's an easy retro-fit ... Very poor quality, and way too expensive.
The product only lasts for two years, this is not good enough, and is proof of the poor quality. This is now the sixth time I have had to replace it in 13 years. The only reason I keep using the same product is to avoid plumbing, wiring, and retiling for a different unit.

It works fine but...
Fast service and a straight swap for my existing shower unit so simple to fit and works fine, but why did my old one break down after very little use - it was in a guest en-suite and had been used a dozen times - on examination a small internal screw had snapped making the unit leak - probably faulty from new so I will be crossing Gainsborough off my list from now on.

Easy fit replacement
Its a very easy fit replacement - this is my 3rd replacement the greatest difficulty is getting the push-fit water pipe to insert / seal correctly.. But why do they stop working after 2 or 3 years? Surely Gainsborough could add higher quality component parts to improve the life cycle!!

It's OK!
I've been using Gainsborough for years as it's hard to change the installation. It generally lasts about 2 years of heavy workload (I have 3 boys) but the last one didn't last more than 6 or 7 months. Luckily the element was ok and I managed to use it on the last one but in general this model is an old design and not you can get all sorts of problems.
