About this product

Product Information

The outbreak of WW1 in 1914 found the British Army unready in many respects for a new age of warfare. However, the British led the world in the personal equipment worn by the infantryman thanks to an American officer named Anson Mills and the skills of the company created to produce his design the 1908 equipment set made in woven cotton web. By the outbreak of WW2, the British infantry had new 1937 pattern equipment, whose design reflected a new generation of weapons and tactics. This proved unequal to the special demands of jungle warfare in the Far East: so 1944 saw yet another set of kit. In this book the author offers collectors and students of militaria a detailed review of these infantry equipments which spanned the British soldier's combat experience throughout most of the 20th century. AUTHOR: Martin Brayley is a leading collector and respected contributor to specialist journals in Britain and on the Continent. colour throughout

  • Photographic reference book for collectors of British Military Webbing.

An excellent, must have book if interested in collecting British webbing equipment. The book is packed with good quality studio photographs of every piece of kit from every angle, accompanied by a wide variety of historic reference photos. The text is concise and informative, and each section accompanied by relevant photos. It covers all the British military webbing from the 1908 pattern kit; through both World wars, up to the 1944 pattern kit. This book is No:32 in the Series Europa Militaria; I would also recommend No:34 British Post war Jungle Webbing, which covers all the more obscure '44 pattern equipment such as the radio bags; most of the '58 pattern equipment including a lot of trials and custom belt-kits.

  • Bloody good show
