This book will be indespensible in the coming economic meltdown. FOR SOME. It will teach the motivated novice living in Idaho how to extend his growing season beyond the pathetic 90 days or so it is. Unfortunately, you must be very hungry to construct the hardware needed for fully utilizing the information in this book. And because it was written pre-internet, there are no websites listed in the source guide, just addresses and expired phone numbers. NOT for the faux Martha Stewart, "Country Living" gardener. You will starve in the coming misery, anyway. But for the industrious Olivia Walton (with John to build the pods!), who realizes that hunger is a terrible thing, the book will be indespensible, in spite of the source guide shortcomings. Survivalists and homesteaders will find it very helpful. Wanna-bes, notsomuch.Read full review
This is the third copy of this book purchased for our northeastern Washington neighborhood of five families. It has very useful and practical information for anyone living in a cold climate with a short growing season. It provides historical information as well as modern solutions. The pictures and illustrations throughout the book make it very easy to follow the suggestions and instructions. We have been following the rotation planting diagrams with great success, no diseases, and improved soil. I highly recommend it!
