About this product

Product Information

You can own and use a classic piece of photographic history with the iconic Carl Zeiss Planar T 50mm f/1.7 lens for Contax and Yashica cameras. The Carl Zeiss Company manufactured the Zeiss Planar T 50mm f/1.7 lenses for Contax. The organization is a leading global manufacturer of optical systems and is known for its innovation and groundbreaking technology in optical engineering. Based on Zeiss Stiftung's original P. Rudolph version first introduced in 1896, the Zeiss Planar is one of the oldest and most sought-after lens designs still in production. This product was originally manufactured in Germany and later in Japan for the Contax line of the Yashica camera company. Its design has stood the test of time and is still beloved by many photographers.A classic standard type manual focus lens, the Zeiss Planar T 50mm f/1.7 features seven optical elements that are placed in six groups. It offers users the freedom of focusing manually for the desired mood and style. The T-star optical coating technology reduces reflections and lens flare and helps to maximize light transmission. Planar lenses are renowned for superior image depth, and their rich color capture ensures sharp lines, stunning brightness, and sufficient contrast. The lens offers a 47-degree angle of view that records distant objects clearly. It also helps to eliminate any distortion to create a true-to-life image. The Zeiss T 50mm f/1.7 for Contax is known for outstanding performance during low-light photography sessions. The line also supports beautiful depth of field and bokeh effects. These lenses have a fixed/prime focal length of 50mm and an aperture ranging from f/1.7 to f/16. The aperture ring includes full and half aperture settings. The focusing scale utilizes both standard and metric measurements, making this lens ideal for both American consumers and international photographers. It also sports a depth-of-field scale and infrared focusing compensation markings. This product was originally designed for Contax/Yashica SLR 35mm film cameras, but it may fit other camera bodies with the use of adapters. Such adapters include those for Nikon, Pentax, and Canon cameras like the Canon EF and Canon EOS. The lenses are made of metal and all glass components and feature a convenient rubber-focusing grip. The lenses can also be used with a variety of 55mm screw-in P mount filters. These produce a number of photo effects and allow for adjustments to image quality. With a diameter of 2.4 inches and weighing only 6.7 ounces, this powerful lens is small enough to become an integral part of your portable photography gear. Its small size and lightweight have made it a fitting choice for everyday picture taking. This item is an excellent choice for collectors of photographic relics and manual focus enthusiasts. It would work as a display piece in a vintage photography collection or serve as a great piece of equipment for capturing family memories in stunning photos. This entry-level Zeiss Planar T 50mm f/1.7 lens could provide the foundation for a complete Carl Zeiss optics collection.

    Excellent

Great range at an affordable price. Portable with sharp focus, excellent complement to the Contax Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 28-85mm F/3.3-4 Zoom Lens. The Vario-Sonnar T* 80-200mm f/4 zoom lens is really convenient; the image quality isn't quite as good as the fixed focal length 135mm, but it is fairly close. The 1:3.33 macro function (at 200mm) is an added bonus. It is a great lens for isolating subject matter in architecture and landscape photography. It's also a convenient portrait lens and the close-up focusing at 200mm allow for 1:3.33 macro as well. The zoom control is an old-fashioned push/pull action with a focus grip, unlike the modern rotating ring-style zooming of many AF lenses. The aperture ring (f/4-f/22) has stops at full apertures and at f/4 you will need as much light as ...

  • Very Sharp Carl Zeiss lens for reasonable price

Good Zeiss lens for reasonable price, bought to use it on a Full Frame Canon camera. My impressions, pluses and minuses: + colors; + picture; + price; + excellent sharpness; + perfect sharpness on frame sides and in corners, really one of the best; - manual focus; - to use on Canon cameras requires adapter C/Y - Canon EOS; - if you use C/Y lenses on Canon, often it requires manual exposition compensation depending on aperture; - you can get a vignette on open aperture, especially if you use a lens filter. Summary: Good and non expensive 50mm Carl Zeiss lens. Excellent for landscapes: sharp on frame sides and in corners, also perfect sharpness when focus is near infinity. Of course very good for full-length portraits (Full Frame cameras) or half-length portraits (APS-C cameras). And ...

  • Contax normal f/1.7 carl zeiss planar t* MM type lens

A very solidly built{metal and glass) very little plastic just bushings I think. The colors that this lens produces with quality film, is awsome! The sharpness is second to none. The Yashica 1.7 comes a very close second once you've enlarged to about 8x10. A very fast handling lens the focus just snaps into place! I would reccomend this lens to any one who wants pro level results and a easy shoot at partys and wedding receptions, or just to tote around on a sight seeing adventure. You won't be dissapointed in any way, handles flare and distortion easily . Ken

  • An amazing 50mm lens!

One of the best 50mm ever made. Fantastically sharp, smooth and well built. I use it for both film on a Contax SLR and with an adapter on a mirrorless camera. An extraordinary lens!

  • even better than the Contax Carl Zeiss50mm 1.4

Before I bought it, I read alot review about this lens. Most of them mentioned that this lens is better than the f1.4 brother. This one make great pictures by working in f1.7. You can use the maxium aperture for very good result. I strongly recommend, for it's metal body, smooth focusing, incredible image quality, you can not miss one.
