Dieses Buch behandelt die chemischen und verfahrenstechnischen der Zementhersteliung. Au.Berdem beschreibt es wesent- Grundlagen liche Eigenschaften von Beton und Martel. Diese Eigenschaften hangen von Rohstoff n, Brand und Feinheit des Zements, von Zusatzen und Zumahlungen ab und werden vom l\fischen, Verarbeiten und Behandeln des Betons beeinfluBt. Einbezogen sind andere Fragen, wie z. B. die Staub- und Larmbekampfung, mit denen sich ein Zementwerk in zu- nehmendem MaBe befassen muB. Die Rohstoffe des Betons, besonders die des Zements, verdanken den machtigen Kriiften der Verwitterung ihr Entstehen. Dem Wirken dieser Kriifte ist aber auch der Beton haufig unmittelbar ausgesetzt. Diese Beanspruchung wird durch die hochentwickelte Technik und ZiviIisation noch wesentIich gesteigert. Ihr hat der Beton bisher uberaus gut widerstanden. Nicht aHe Tatsachen und Gedanken haben in dem Buch Platz ge- funden. Die aus dem Dusseldorfer Forschungsinstitut hervorgegangenen und die ubrigen deutschsprachigen Arbeiten nehmen einen Vorrang ein. Dafur werden, so hoffe ich, die nicht namentlich erwahnten oder nur sehr kurz zitierten KoHegen Verstandnis haben. Der Verzicht auf viele Einzelheiten und Hinweise hat es ermoglicht, den Zusammenhang zwischen den einzelnen Fachrichtungen der Chemie und Physik des Zements und Betons starker als bisher ublich zu be- tonen. Dadurch soHen vor aHem dem Nachwuchs in unserer Wissen- schaft die Ansatzpunkte fUr eigene Forschungs- und Entwicklungs- arbeit deutlich werden.
